SELBY AND DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION RULES. - COMPETITIONS
All Competitions shall be played under the Rules of the EBA and shall be controlled by the Management Committee or the Emergency Sub-Committee.
The Competitions shall be confined to Members of Teams who are Members of the Selby Bowling Association and having paid the subscriptions and fees for the current year.
Players in the Selby and District Bowling Association Competitions must be from the Team with whom they are registered to play in the League.
Entry Fees: This amount to be fixed by the Management Committee.
Selby Merit Competition and Veterans Singles: The games shall consist of 21 points. 4 bowls to each player. Veterans to be aged sixty or over on the 1st January.
Pairs Competition: (a) The games shall consist of 21 ends, 4 bowls each player. The Leads to play their 4 bowls before the Skips. In the event of a tie an extra end must be played. The points scored at this end to count in the final score. (b) Each pair shall consist of two men who must be playing members of the same Team. (c) The two players taking part in the first game shall constitute the pair and should normally play together throughout the Competition. One additional, and the same player, may be used as a substitute, provided he has not already played in this Competition.
Triples Competition: (a) The game shall consist of 18 ends. 3 bowls each player. In the event of a tie an extra end must be played, the points scored at this end to count in the final score. (b) Each triple shall consist of 3 men, who must be playing members of the same Team. (c) The 3 players taking part in the first game shall constitute the triple, and should normally play together throughout the Competition. One additional, and the same player, may be used as a substitute at anytime provided he has not already played in this Competition.
Fours Competition: (a) The game shall consist of 21 ends. 2 bowls each player. In the event of a tie, an extra end must be played, the points scored at this end to count in the final score. (b) Each four shall consist of 4 men, who must be playing members of the same Team. (c) The 4 players taking part in the first game shall constitute the four and should normally play together throughout the Competition. One additional, and the same player, may be used as a substitute at anytime provided he has not already played in the Competition.
All Competitions: (a) The first drawn of each pairing shall be termed the ‘CHALLENGER’ and the second the ‘OPPONENT’. (b) The ‘Challenger’ on receipt of the draw shall within 3 days of the date of the draw offer his opponent at least three dates on which he is prepared to play the tie, one of which must be a weekend date. (c) The ‘Opponent’ shall within 2 days accept one of these dates. (d) A ‘Challenger’ or ‘Opponent’, failing to comply with (b) or (c) above, shall be scratched upon the successful application of the opposing party and, failing such application before the last day of the period of the round, both parties shall be scratched. (e) No alteration of an accepted date shall be made unless mutually agreed upon. Failing such agreement, the party desiring such alteration must give the other party a ‘Walk Over’. (f) If a party arrives more than half an hour after the time fixed for the tie, the other party may claim a ‘Walk Over’.
Venues for Ties: (a) All matches up to and including the Semi-Finals shall be played on the Challenger’s green. (b) Finals to be played on a Green decided by the Management Committee. (c) Bank Holidays to be avoided for Semi-Finals and Finals.
Results: (a) All results must be communicated to the Competition Secretary not later than the dates decided. (b) No result card will be accepted by the Secretary unless the names of all players taking part in the Match are entered on the card and the card signed by the Opponent. The name of the Competition and date must also be shown. (c) In all Competition Semi-Finals and Finals once a date is fixed for these events, the date will be strictly adhered to, and if a team is unable to field a side for whatever reason, the game must be conceded.
The Management Committee shall have the power to alter or amend the Competition Rules as required.
The decision of the Management Committee or Emergency Sub-Committee on any dispute shall be final and binding.
The Competition draw shall be made up to and including the Semi-Final.
