SELBY AND DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION RULES - FOURS LEAGUE - 2002 - Sponsored by Abbey Pest Control

Teams: A team shall consist of 3 rinks of 4 registered players. 3 registered players per rink is allowed, subject to score reduction. (See ‘Results’ below).

(a)9 players constitute a team and must be played as such. Starting time for all league matches shall be 6.45 prompt, after which Rule (b) will applb)In the event of a team being unable to field nine (9) players, then that team will be taken to have forfeited the game and the points be awarded to the opposing team.

(c) Games unable to be played, to be referred to the General Secretary as soon as the circumstances arise.

Results: 

(a)The winning team shall be the team which gains the most points at the end of the game.

(b)2 points will be awarded per rink win. 1 point each rink in the event of a tie. 1 point will be awarded for the overall aggregate. 1/2 point to each team in the event of a tie. points in the League to be - 2 per rink win and 1 for the overall aggregate. 7 points in all.

(c) 25% of a rink score will be deducted from a rink playing one player short.

(d)Rinks may be made up from 3 to 4 players, up to and including the 3rd end.

(e)In the event of a 3 player rink, lead and second to bowl 3 bowls consecutively.

(f) It is the responsibility of both teams to forward the results of fixtures to the Secretary within 3 days of the fixture being completed. This should be achieved by leaving the score cards at the desk at Selby Bowling Club.

Postponements: Games postponed due to greens being unfit must be played within 14 days, by mutual agreement.

Fixtures: All fixtures to be played during the fixed week on nights arranged by the Management Committee, usually Mondays and Wednesdays (excluding Bank Holidays).

The Fours League will start at the beginning of the season on a date fixed be the Management Committee.

All League matches shall be 18 ends normally, but 15 ends to be played up to the end of May. A minimum of 15 ends (12 in April / May) must be played to obtain a result.

Abandoned games to be resumed with the rinks and the scores as they were at the last completed end. One substitute per rink may be allowed. Resumed games to be rearranged within 14 days of the original fixture to comply with Rule 3 (Postponements).

Two League Divisions: Two teams each season will be relegated to Division 2, being the bottom two teams in Division 1. Two teams each season will be promoted to Division 1, being the top two teams in Division 2. Team position being determined by the number of points gained. Where there is equality of points then ‘shots difference’ will decide.

The Triples League: A Triples League sponsored by Clariant UK consist of 18 matches in two divisions, playing each other home and away. To be played immediately after the Fours League.

Two League Divisions: Three teams each season will be relegated to Division 2, being the bottom three teams in Division 1. Three teams each season will be promoted to Division 1, being the top three teams in Division 2. Team position being determined by the number of points gained. Where there is equality of points then ‘shots difference’ will decide.

Teams: A team shall consist of four rinks of three registered players from the same club

Substitutes are allowed, provided they are registered in the same Club in the Selby and District Bowling association, but can play for only one team in the Triples League.

Three players are necessary for a triples rink, and if three players are not available, then the points for that rink are forfeited to the opponents (see rule 5 (Scoring) below). A side not able to field a rink will forfeit the points for that rink and the aggregate. A side not able to field 2 rinks (6 players) will forfeit the game and all points.

Matches: All ties to be played on the Green of the ‘home drawn’ team, all rinks playing at the same venue. This requires Selby Bowling Club to have eight rinks on their Green if two teams are playing at home and one away. Also the fixture list must take into account the number of teams and rinks available at other clubs. All ties to be 18 ends, except in August when 15 ends are to be played. Ties to be played on the dates indicated, or another date in the same week, by mutual agreement. Games postponed due to Greens being unfit must be played within 14 days by mutual agreement. If owing to inclement weather or premature darkness, time is limited, then any tie can be curtailed to 15 ends (12 in August) by mutual agreement, provided it is agreed before the start of the first end. A minimum of 15 ends (12 in August) must be played to obtain a result. Trial ends are not obligatory, and may be dispensed with by mutual agreement by the captains. Starting time shall be 6.30 pm prompt.  No player can join a rink after play has commenced, excluding trial ends.

Scoring: Six points will be available for each match. One point for each winning rink, and two points for the winning side, decided on aggregate of shots. When a team cannot play 4 rinks, rule 3(Teams) will apply. In the event of a drawn rink half a point will be given to each side. In the event of the aggregate being drawn each side will gain one point. It is the responsibility of both teams to forward the results of fixtures to the Results Secretary within 3 days of the fixture being completed. This should be achieved by leaving the score cards at the desk at Selby Bowling Club.
